Over 92% take regular health precautions
Bocholt / Berlin July 12, 2023 – In cooperation with the pet insurance company PANDA, which was named “Germany’s best dog insurance” by the DFSI (€uro Magazine), Canosept’s dog home pharmacy, which has been successful for decades, surveyed over 570 dog owners in the first German dog health barometer .
The survey shows:
The increase in the Veterinary Fee Schedule (GOT) in November 2022 also brings with it concerns: More than half (52.9%) of the 570 respondents stated that they are concerned that the increase in the GOT will no longer allow them to afford certain treatments. On the positive side, the majority of dog owners (92.3%) are willing to take regular preventative measures, such as brushing their dog's teeth or cleaning its ears.
Dog owners take regular precautions / a medicine cabinet is a must.
91.2% of dog owners confirm that the health of their four-legged friends is important to very important to them. The majority of them have a first-aid kit for their dogs for regular preventative care (82.8%). The products in the Canosept first-aid kit are impressive and are recommended by 98.5% of users.
Despite increased veterinary costs, 83.5% of dog owners plan to continue to have the necessary preventive examinations at the veterinarian in addition to care at home.Insurance is more in demand than ever, and the Internet is becoming an important sales channel.
Only one in four dog owners report having dog health insurance. At the same time, the willingness to take out dog health insurance has increased following the GOT increase to cover the increased veterinary costs.
While traditional insurance agents remain an important contact for purchasing insurance, the internet has become the new standard for many dog owners. Dog health insurance is now usually purchased quickly and easily online through comparison platforms (35.6%) or directly from the provider (30.8%).
The survey was conducted in March and April 2023. The questionnaire was shared via the social media platforms of Canosept and PANDA Pet Insurance, as well as via the "Ein Herz für Tiere" newsletter. As part of the successful barometer survey, PANDA Pet Insurance donated EUR 250 to the organization Tierschutz Spanien eV, which is committed to rescuing dogs from killing stations and rehoming them.
