Biocide sales restriction from 01.01.2025 - New ARDAP range with flexible solutions for retailers
Bocholt, 30.09.2024 - The deadline of January 1, 2025 will significantly change the retail landscape for pesticides in Germany. From this date, a new law will come into force that bans the free sale of many biocidal products in this country.
Section 10 of the ChemBiozidDV regulates a so-called "ban on self-service" from next year. From January, it will no longer be permitted for certain biocidal products, including the product category PT 18 ("killing insecticides"):
- to sell products on a self-service basis, i.e. with free access to the biocidal product
- Selling products without a personal sales meeting conducted in advance by a specially trained person
Retailers are therefore faced with new challenges and decisions on whether to invest in expensive glass display cases and additional training for store staff.

The legislation will massively change the biocide market in Germany. "We assume that entry-level products will disappear from the market and that many distribution channels with PT18 products will dry up due to the high requirements that cannot be implemented by many retailers, especially online, in food retailing, drugstores and specialty retailers," says Erich Peters, Managing Director of Ardap Care.
However, the demand for insecticides has been growing for years, not least due to climate change and favorable conditions for the development of pests, which can become not only a nuisance but also a real medical problem in the worst cases. "People are therefore inevitably continuing to look for reliable and, above all, effective solutions and are prepared to spend money on real and effective problem solvers for pest control," continues Erich Peters.
Flexible solutions for retailers: ARDAP Repell and ARDAP Pro
Market leader ARDAP is therefore already providing retailers with a flexible range that offers reliable and effective solutions for all retailers - regardless of the options for free or restricted sales.
New to the range is the "ARDAP Repell" product line with a variety of over-the-counter PT 19 products (so-called repellents, i.e. repellents against vermin). "During the extensive development of the new product line, it was important to us that we continue to offer the trade an over-the-counter solution that also offers the end consumer the proven ARDAP quality and reliability in repelling a wide range of crawling and flying pests," says Eric Peters, also Managing Director of the family business.
The repellent range includes the universal product ARDAP Repell vermin spray as well as special products to repel ants, fleas, mites, flies, spiders, wasps and silverfish.
In addition, a large number of products for use on animals, such as the tried-and-tested ARDAP spot-ons, collars, sprays and shampoos, which have been available in the PT 19 product group for decades, will continue to be freely available for sale.
ARDAP will continue to offer the proven pest control products of the PT18 product group with long-term effect for all retailers who can and wish to offer solutions "behind glass" and with dispensing discussions based on trained market personnel within the framework of the new legislation for the end consumer. In future, these will be labeled with the suffix "ARDAP Pro".
No matter which ARDAP products retailers choose: With the original from ARDAP, end consumers will continue to be offered highly effective and reliable problem solvers in convincing premium quality from 01.01.2025.
