The ARDAP 3-step system for tick protection in cats
Reliable tick protection for cats requires not only effective repellent products, but also the right approach.
The ARDAP 3-step system was developed by us together with veterinarian Dr. Mencke. For lasting and optimal protection of your cat against tick infestation.
Tick protection for cats - Step 1: Searching for and removing ticks
Before using a new tick repellent for cats, it is important to make sure that your cat is completely free of ticks. To do this, comb through the coat and check your cat's skin directly.
With the ARDAP flea & dust comb you can detect a possible tick infestation in your cat. You can also comb out and remove crawling ticks directly.
Where do ticks hide in cats?
This is where the bloodsuckers are often found:
- Head (especially around the ears and eyes)
- Neck
- Chest
- Lower abdomen/ groin area
- Legs
Removing ticks from your cat
If you discover a tick that has already bitten you must first remove it before applying the repellent product.
To do this, expose the affected area of skin. Use a tick hook or tweezers to reach under the tick close to your cat's skin. Remove the tick without squeezing it.
We recommend the various ARDAP tick hooks for removing ticks. These remove both small and thick, fully engorged ticks. The ARDAP tick hooks in a set of 3 in different hook sizes.
The 2-in-1 ARDAP Tick Hook with Tweezers also removes ticks from cats and humans quickly and thoroughly. The tweezers also grab thorns and splinters. After use, the stainless steel tick hook can be hygienically disinfected and safely stored in the leather case.
What happens if the tick head gets stuck in the cat?
It often happens that part of the tick is not completely removed. It is often assumed that it is the head of the tick that has become stuck. However, it is only a part of the biting apparatus. This is usually shed by the body. There is therefore no cause for concern.
Tick protection for cats - Step 2: Prevention
The best and safest tick protection for cats is defense. Ticks should not have the opportunity to attach themselves to the cat. Both the ARDAP Spot-On Tick and Flea Protection and the ARDAP Tick and Flea Collar have a repellent effect. For reliable and long-lasting tick protection for cats.
Tick protection for cats - Step 3: Additional tick protection
In addition to the ARDAP Spot-On Tick and Flea Protection or ARDAP Tick and Flea Collar you can use the ARDAP Tick Spray for reliable and long-lasting tick protection for cats for up to 4 weeks. Also suitable for kittens from the 6th week.
Alternatively for cats, which is sensitive to spraying noises, we recommend the ARDAP Tick and Flea Powder. The powder for sprinkling into the coat works immediately and for up to a week.
What is the best tick repellent for my cat?
Invisible tick repellent - spot-ons
Spot-ons are dripped directly onto the skin in the neck area. The active ingredient of the tick repellent is distributed via the skin's natural oily film.
The advantage of spot-ons is that your outdoor pet cannot lose the tick protection. However, as a tick repellent for cats they are somewhat more expensive than collars. This is because they require regular application every four weeks.
With the ARDAP Spot-On Tick and Flea Protection you achieve highly effective repellent protection against ticks. Thanks to the 3 tubes in one pack, it lasts up to 12 weeks.
Is the ARDAP Spot On for cats dangerous?
No! ARDAP uses pyrethrum from the chrysanthemum flower in its tick repellents for cats, which also keeps fleas away. This active ingredient is used to repel pests. It is ideally suited for application on animals.
Difference between pyrethrum from the chrysanthemum flower and permethrin
The active ingredients pyrethrum from the chrysanthemum flower and permethrin are often confused with each other due to their similar-sounding names. Both have a repellent effect on pests. However, their principles are very different.
Obtained naturally: Pyrethrum from the chrysanthemum flower
Pyrethrum, or Chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium, is a naturally derived active ingredient. It can only be extracted from the natural chrysanthemum plant. The natural substance is very photolabile, i.e. pyrethrum is broken down relatively quickly by sunlight.
Versatile permethrin
Permethrin is a chemically synthesized substance. Due to its repellent as well as long-term killing effect, this active ingredient is used in a wide range of applications.
The killing effect is often confused with a hazardous or toxic substance. However, the spectrum of permethrin has been scientifically analyzed and evaluated. It can therefore be used in agriculture, animal husbandry and in the home.

For my dog only the best: beef bones and coffee wood
For natural chews, it is best to use beef bones or chewing roots made from coffee wood, for example. They are usually well tolerated, do not splinter and are thus the gentle chewing fun for the teeth.
Tick repellent with longest duration of action - collar
Collars as a tick repellent for cats provide comfortable protection. Once placed around the neck, a collar is effective for a longer period of up to 4 months.
Due to the longer duration of action, the tick repellent collar requires less effort than spot-ons. However, the loss of the collar no longer guarantees tick protection.
Important: The ARDAP Tick and Flea Collar is equipped with a safety mechanism. This means that the collar will come off if your cat puts up too much resistance.
This ARDAP Tick and Flea Collar for cats can be used for kittens from 4 months of age. It offers highly effective protection against ticks for up to 4 months.
Contactless tick repellent for targeted application - spray
Tick sprays can be applied to the relevant areas of the cat's body without contact and in a targeted manner. Where ticks hide in cats.
Sprays have a longer duration of action than powders. However, they are unsuitable as a tick repellent for cats, which are sensitive to spraying noises.
This ARDAP Tick Spray provides reliable protection for up to 4 weeks. The tick repellent is suitable for kittens from the 6th week.
No-spray tick repellent for every cat - powder
Powder as a tick repellent for cats is sprinkled evenly into the coat against the direction of hair growth.
As a tick repellent, they can be applied to specific areas and in specific situations as additional tick protection for each cat. Unlike a ticken spray the duration of action is significantly shorter.
This ARDAP Tick and Flea Powder can be used on kittens from the 6th week. This tick repellent for cats works immediately and for up to a week.
